On Friday, May 5th, at 12 AM, Darren Sleep will give a lecture on “Ecological Science and Sustainability in the North American Forestry Sector” in the Aula Magna of the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra thanks to the Onesta Wood Chair.
In his talk, Daren Sleep will discuss the challenge of defining sustainability and developing the metrics and means to achieve global risk reduction in natural systems. He will explain the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), which is the world’s largest single forest certification programme. SFI programmes are developed to meet sustainability goals based on sound forest management and supply chain standards, research, community engagement and educational initiatives.

Darren Sleep (Ph.D.) currently directs SFI’s conservation programme providing expertise and guidance towards achieving conservation outcomes and managing academic and conservation-related relationships across Canada and the United States.
She conceptualizes, strategizes, and manages projects and partnerships to advance understanding of conservation-related features, and liaises directly with scientific institutions, public and private agencies in both Canada and the United States.
Prior to joining SFI, Darren worked as a Project Leader in Forest Ecology at the National Council for Air and StreamImprovement, where he worked on issues of relevance to the forestry sector and collaborated with the biological and conservation science communities.
