New call for the AMAD Architecture in Wood Awards organised by AITIM-ASA-Onesta

Convened and organised by AITIM, ASA, and Onesta, the AMAD Architecture in Wood Awards are aimed, as in previous calls, at projects of new construction, rehabilitation, or interior design that have been completed in 2023.

This marks the fifth edition of the awards. Additionally, this year’s event boasts the sponsorship of FSC® Spain, one of the leading companies in forestry management and chain of custody certification. Also, the Onesta Wood Chair from the University of Navarra will continue supporting what has already become one of the country’s most significant wood architecture recognitions.

The winning projects of this new edition, both the top three prizes and the runners-up, will be published in a special issue of the AITIM magazine. Furthermore, any projects that the jury deems of sufficient quality, originality, or media projection may also be published.

The competition rules are now available at the following link. Below, we highlight the main terms of the call:

  • First prize for each category:

Equipped with €2,500, a wood trophy, the project’s publication in the AITIM magazine, and distribution batches of the special issue magazine among clients.

  • Runners-up:

Will receive a certificate, the project’s publication in the AITIM magazine, and distribution batches of the special issue magazine among clients.

  • Categories:

New Construction, rehabilitation, refurbishment or Interior Design.

  • Jury: Comprising renowned architects, this edition includes Mr Francisco Arriaga, architect and professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Ms. Taba Rasti, senior partner and co-director at Foster + Partners from the Madrid office (winners of the previous edition), and Ms. Benedetta Tagliabue, from EMBT Architects. The jury is rounded off with a representative from each of the involved institutions: AITIM, ASA, Onesta Wood Chair from the University of Navarra, and Onesta.
  • Submission deadline for projects: from 23rd October to 10th December 2023.
  • Award ceremony: the awards will be presented on the campus of the University of Navarra in Madrid, following the magazine’s publication.

For the organisers of the AMAD Awards, it is a pleasure to contribute to the wood construction sector with awards that promote decarbonisation. Supporting the use of wood and all its benefits as a building material and helping to showcase the success of this material in large-scale projects.

Last Monday, 9th October, the Onesta Bioproducts for Construction Chair was introduced at the University of Cordoba's Rector's office, marking Spain's inaugural chair on this subject.
This transaction, strategic for Onesta, strengthens its presence in the sector, placing it in a leading position in the management of wood construction projects, from their design to their on-site execution.
It is the first in Spain specialising in this field, encompassing the forestry-industry-construction value chain, from research into the genetic improvement of species, to the optimisation of forest use, and the development and innovation of products for their integration into construction solutions.
